Bell Ambulance believes that EMS employees are underpaid for the work they do. We have been working to raise EMS reimbursement, so that we can pay our employees more.
Wisconsin Medicaid recipients account for the majority of our clients, yet Wisconsin EMS providers have not received an increase in over twenty years. If Medicaid rates for EMS were increased to match the Medicare reimbursement schedule, we could afford to pay all of our employees more! We’re working with the legislature and the Governor’s office to make this happen.
During this pandemic, Wisconsin received nearly $2 billion dollars and the Governor earmarked only $100 million dollars for EMS and long term health care. We were hoping to use some of this money to provide Hazard Pay to our EMTs, Paramedics and Dispatchers. We have since learned that Bell Ambulance’s share of these funds will be $0. We’re protesting this arbitrary decision.
Despite receiving $0 from the State, we have made the business decision to give each of our front line employees a $1 per hour increase for Hazard Pay, retroactive to March 1st.
